Knee Surgery Recovery Tips

Knee Surgery Recovery Recovering from knee surgery presents some unique challenges. After all, the knee is the largest joint in the body and plays a key role in basic movements like sitting, standing, and walking. Each patient’s ideal course of recovery will depend on the knee surgery that was performed, but here are some general tips you can follow to help facilitate healing:

  • Try to keep your knee as straight as possible. This position may not be incredibly comfortable, but it will help promote healing immediately following surgery.
  • Use your brace, crutches, or walker according to your surgeon’s instructions. This may seem like a no-brainer, but these devices are essential to a successful recovery from knee surgery. Be sure to follow your doctor’s orders exactly.
  • With your physician’s guidance, engage in gentle exercise. As your knee begins to heal, implementing low-impact exercises and gentle stretching routines can help restore strength and flexibility around the knee joint. Be sure to speak with your physician about what exercises may be best for you.
  • Listen to your body! Get plenty of rest, avoid strenuous activities, and take it easy as your knee heals.

I was able to get a office visit on short notice. It seemed to be a very busy day. Rebecca took the time to listen to all of my issues and discuss a plan for additional treatment. I have always been impressed with her knowledge and bed side manner.
